Page 6: The NEW EJ Four String Fretless Electric Bass, October 7, 2016
Here you see the controls cavity. Routed to within 3/16" of the top of the instrument. Later it will be sealed with a removable acrylic (plexiglas) cover. To be routed for the battery compartment, where a 9 Volt battery will sit. The EMG's are very low magnetic pickups - active pickups, requiring power (the 9V) to boost the magnetic response from the bass strings. The rationale for the African Ebony fretboard? It's among the top 5 or so hardwoods on earth with a density of between 1.1 and 1.3 on the density scale - sinks like a stone in water. Why am I making a fretless electric bass for myself? My hands and finger no longer do what I tell them to do (bastards, all of them). I'm looking forward to playing this new present to myself (thank you) through my old and reliable and powerful Roland Twin 12's. I intend to post a short video sometime soon so you can hear my new gem.
